Turkey Hunting in Southern Illinois

We've based our videos strictly around waterfowl, but a turkey is a fowl too! Much like our waterfowl videos tell the story of the hunt, this turkey video does as well.  We had horrible weather conditions, cold, and rain for this weekend of hunting in southern Illinois.  It was the third season in the south zone and we hunted with our buddy Jonathan Hill who we met while snow goose hunting. The hunt took place on public land and as you will see we really couldn't buy a break.  We had other hunters bust turkeys that were coming to our setup on day one.  Day two started with rain, but after a quick breakfast the rain subsided and the sun came out.  We hit the road in search of a longbeard.  Since the hunt was on public land, the birds are hunted so hard that they don't gobble very regularly so we were trying to spot a turkey in the open then make a move in on him.  We finally found one down a power line clear cut about a mile away and found a close parking spot to make our move from.  The first setup was up the hill from him and after two minutes of him not moving, but gobbling we knew we had to make a move.  Other hunters were just across the clear cut.  We re-positioned down the hill from him about 100 yards away and were finally able to get a visual on him. The rest you'll have to see for yourself!
